What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain And Constipation?

Ok so I have a history of holding on to bowel movements because im busy or whatever the case, and usually I just go when im not busy anymore, but sometimes it turns into constipation. Last night at about 12am I had to have a bowel movement, but I decided to hold it because I was going to skype my girlfriend, we skyped til 3am then I went to sleep, and when I was going to sleep I had no pain in my abdomen. Cut to this morning when I wake up, at 7 (4 hours sleep isnt usual for me) I had this intense pain in my lower abdomen and stomach, around my bellybutton, and I thought I was just thinking too into it or whatever and tried to go back to sleep, but the pain was so bad I started heavy breathing and so I decided to take some painkillers for it, thinking it was constipation and id calm the pain down til I could have a bowel movement. However now I have had a reasonably sizeable bowel movement, and I still have the pain, I read about bowel obstructions and how they can cause similar pain, and it would make sense considering my position, but the only symptom I have is the pain, I can pass gas, no vomitting or anything. What could be causing this pain? Other details, im an 18 year old guy, have no history of any diseases or issues other than asthma as a kid which I doubt is related. So what is this? Please help!!

Infectious Diseases Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

1. Never hold on to your poop
2. Try taking some laxatives 2 tsp at night while going to bed if you have severe constipation.
3. Get an Ultrasound abdomen done to rule out Appendicitis which happens because of stagnant food inside the colon in that can cause severe pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
