hello Dr. Soumya I have been having lower abdominal pains for some time now, recently the pains became more frequent and I do hear vibration and something I could describe like a movement, and each time I feel this pain I feel completely weak and loss weight and again I notice extreme pain during my last monthly period. pls what is really wrong with me. thanks
Hello and welcome to HCM, Pain in lower abdomen during menstrual cycle is dysmenorrhea or painful menstruation. Dysmenorrhea is a common problem associated with menstrual cycles and it can be prevented and control with anti-spasmodic drugs. These drugs can be started with the onset of periods but they are effective even after onset of menstrual cycles. If the pain is occurring at other times also besides menstrual cycles, then you need to get a lower abdomen/ pelvic ultrasound to assess the status of lower abdominal organs also. Other causes of lower abdominal or pelvic pain are pelvic inflammatory diseases, urinary tract infection etc.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
