ive had the mirena iud for about 10 months now, i was supposed to get my period 3 weeks ago and it never came, i sometimes get a pain in my lower abdomen but its tolerable, and now im get really bad lower back pain, is pregnancy possible or is it the mirena?
While being on Mirena sometimes irregular menstrual periods can be seen in the initial months. But some women may experience irregularity, even after few months of usage. As according to manufacturers Mirena is having around 99% success rate. So, the possibility of pregnancy is generally less. Women with Intrauterine contraceptive devices are more prone to pelvic infections. As you are having severe pain, better to get evaluated.
Clinical examination and investigations like blood test for pregnancy and ultrasound will help in ruling out the possibility of pregnancy and also the pelvic infection. After ruling out the pregnancy, you can wait for a few more days and possibly by that time you may get the withdrawal bleeding. If pelvic infection is diagnosed, you may need to take systemic and local antibiotics. Analgesics can help in decreasing the pain.
