What Causes Lower Back Pain Radiating Down The Leg To The Foot?

My son has had two previous low back injuries. He is now suffering severe back pain that radiates down his right leg and into his foot. He is having trouble walking which includes right knee giving out on him. He has had herniated discs L5-S1 in the past. Could that be his problem now?

Hi,

The pain is due to L5 s1 disc herniation leading to nerve compression leading to sciatica, it is not related to knee giving out.
