Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Lower Back Pain While Having Kidney Stones?
Lower back pain ( below waist on either side ), pretty constant for the past week. Have beem diagnosed with one kidney stone - cat scan in Aug to see if there are more. Age 72 , never had any previous back pain . Exercise 3 days week ( 75min class - lots of cardio ) , during this, do not experience pain.
Usually the pain starts when a stone moves into the narrow ureter. This causes a blockage, which makes pressure build up in the kidney. It may radiate to your belly and groin area as the stone moves down through your urinary tract.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Blerina Pasho, General & Family Physician
