What Causes Lower Leg Pain In An Elderly Woman?

my mom is 77 years old. she has leg pain tonight...lower leg on outside from knee down the through calf. it doesn t hurt if she puts no weight on it unless she turns her foot inward. it doesn t appear more swollen than other leg nor warm. she says she is experiencing muscle spasms in her calf area. she can barely walk and found a cane in her closet tonight to use. she has history of high blood pressure and had to have her left arm artery cleared twice about 8-10 years ago. worried about blood clot

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be neuropathic pain or peripheral vascular disease.

As first-line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief.

If symptoms persist you can opt for an arterial Doppler.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
