Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 12 year old son has been having LRQ pain on and off since July (4 episodes). Usually the pain comes on suddenly and resolves in several hours. Last Sunday, he has another episode but this time, the pain is constant. Everytime he has an episode, he experiences nausea, vomiting, and severe pain that will not go away with meds or changing positions. We are now in our 9th day with normal test results and scans but still having pain and he is losing weight due to lack of appetite. Doctor discovered that he has a retrocecal appendix. Could it be appendicitis?
Hello Since this pain is for 10 days and recurrence is there . The reason of such pain in 12 year old may be due to . 1 Appendicitis ( retrocecal appendix means on the posterior side i.e. behind caecum ) may be the main cause . 2 Right renal calculus is another most common cause . Sometime radioluscent stone is very difficult to detect , so this may be the cause of such pain. 3 Amoebic colitis is another such common cause in child. In my opinion consult one more physician and get his opinion ( 2nd one ). Hope this will help you. Good luck.
