What Causes Lump And Itchiness In The Cheek While On Amoxicillin For Tooth Pain?
I went to the dentist 3 days ago with a terrible toothache and swollen face, turns out I have an abcsess so was prescribed amoxicillin and metronidazole. I ve been taking them and the cheek has gone down and I m not in pain anymore however today for some reason my cheek is really itchy and I can really feel the lump of fluid in my cheek. I don t feel unwell just a little worried. What shall I do?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of lump and itchiness in the cheek while on Amoxicillin for tooth pain which seems to be due to presence of infection in root tips and leading to formation of abscess which is spreading to facial spaces.
If swelling doesn't subside in 2-3 days then visit dentist once. Doctor may order X-ray to see level of infection and start treatment accordingly. Doctor may prescribe root canal treatment as well after subsiding infection with antibiotics.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari

Hi Dear, Welcome to HCM. Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of lump and itchiness in the cheek while on Amoxicillin for tooth pain which seems to be due to presence of infection in root tips and leading to formation of abscess which is spreading to facial spaces. I would suggest you to :- - Give cold compresses to face. - Do warm saline rinses after 48 hours. - Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and swelling. If swelling doesn t subside in 2-3 days then visit dentist once. Doctor may order X-ray to see level of infection and start treatment accordingly.
