What Causes Lump Below/next To Hip?

I m only 13 and I was scratching my hip when I came across a lump just below / next to my hip . There is no pain and it feels like it s moving when I press on it . When I do touch it I get a sharp pain in my stomach and then the lump hurts for about 1 minute . Please could you tell me what it is or if I should not worry .

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi! Good afternoon. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.

The lump in the location stated by you could be an inguinal hernia which could go inside the abdomen on pressure and on lying down, and might come back again on increasing the intra abdominal pressure. You have to verify by your self if both your testes are in position or not. Sometimes, one of the testes might not descend normally down the scrotum and it might be felt in the area located by you known as inguinal region. Both the above condition might give rise to pain in the abdomen on pressure. The third possibility could just be an enlarged lymph node which would also move, but might not cause pain n the abdomen/stomach. All these could be diagnosed and managed only after a personal physical examination and related investigations, and so I would advise you not to worry, but to get in touch with your family physician/ a surgeon in your area with your parents/guardian for an appropriate opinion and management.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.

Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
