Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I am a 61 yr old widow. I have not been sexually active in 5 yrs since my husband passed. I go to the bathroom and it feels like a ball of some type is coming out. I push it back up but when showering, and having to raise my leg to wash, it feels all the time like it is coming out. Do you have any idea whay that could possibly be or what I should do? Thank you
Thanks for your question. From your history it is evident that you are suffering from uterine prolapse.
This usually occurs because of weakening of pelvic floor muscles and ligaments which supports the uterus. Hence because of lack of support uterus may protrude into vagina. Hence you feel like a ball of some kind is coming out of vagina.
If it's of milder degree without any symptoms then no treatment is required. However if the prolapse is of major degree then surgical intervention is required.
Uterine pessary can be inserted to support the uterus. Pelvic floor muscles and ligaments can be strengthened surgically. In your case doctor may advice for hysterectomy ie.,removal of the uterus. Hope this helps. Have a nice day.
