What Causes Lump On Lower Back In A Child?

Hi my daughter was about 1 month old when I noticed a lump that is blue on the left side of her lower back. I thought it was just a bruise maybe from delivery, but she is 5 months old now and I just noticed it again with her sitting up leaning over. What could it be? It s only noticeable if she is leaning over?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Blue colored patches are commonly seen in new borns in lower back. However, a blue colored lump may be due to hematoma. I suggest you to consult your pediatrician for clinical assessment of the lump, X-ray of lower back and thus management.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
