What Causes Lump On The Ear At The Site Of Piercing?
My cousin used to have his left ear a few years ago and now there s a lump where the earring used to be . I was just wondering how common this is. And if it s something that should be checked out right away. Thank you, have a nice day.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your cousin have symptoms of lump on the ear at the site of piercing. There can be many reason for this like ear infection, improperly sterilized instruments and there can be other reasons also like irritation of skin. Need not to worry. Normal piercing take 4-8 week for healing , Sometimes cartilage piercing take little longer time. I would suggest you to consult dermatologist for proper checkup and treatment. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics for at least a week . Do not wear anything in ear till they heal properly. You should avoid touching or pricking ear with any sharp instruments or objects.

Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like trauma caused while wearing the earring , infection in the pricked site or abscess. I would suggest you to apply ice packs over it , steroid based ointments along with over the counter antibiotic ointment . Remove your ear rings for few days , because sometimes the metal of the ear ring can also cause allergic reaction . If condition doesn get well then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory or may drain pus from lump .
