What Causes Lumps On Right Side Of Head And Neck?

Yesterday I woke up with a lump on the right upper side of my head. I knew that I didn t bump my head on anything, later last night, I felt it and it seemed like there was a point to it. It hurts like I bumped it, my husband looked at it and started to squeeze it and said it was a pimple. I now woke up this morning with a large lump on my gland or lymph node on the same side. What could this be and can it be related?

Hello,

You have lump on the neck and also on the right side of the head. Lumps commonly occur in the neck due to infection (bacterial / viral) of the lymph nodes or cancerous growth. Lumps in the muscles of the neck are caused by injury. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP. Get blood tests, investigations, biopsy to rule out any malignancy.

Your treating doctor may recommend Imaging tests (CT, MRI) to get a detailed study and detect the pathology causing discomfort so that treatment can be started at the earliest. A bump on the side of the head is caused by cysts, fatty growths, inflamed hair follicles, and bone spurs. Get clinically assessed, bumps can be soft or hard. You will be treated accordingly. You may need conservative treatment or surgery if required.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
