What Causes Lumps Under Chin And Armpit?

On May 5 I had some lab drawn which came back neutrophils 0.2 redrew on May 11 wherein they were 0.3 the doctor immediayely sent me to an oncologists/cancer doctor with a diagnosis of WBC disease showing leukopenia w/ neutropenia. That doctor had a very low tolerance threshold due to my age 44 years old & ordered all kinds of blood tests, then spoke of a iron infusion, a bone marrow biopsy & biopsies of several spots (sores) that have recently come up. The blood tests would take 2 weeks next apt 5-26 to discuss results & schedule biopsies. I also recently have a sore lump under the skin come up under my right armpit. I have a large lump on right chin that has been there for atleast 3 years & may have been a result of a hard hit to the chin 3 years ago bruise has been there for years as well. Is there any way the lump on the chin or the lump und e r the armpit c ok uld be relayed to some sort of cancer. What is the purpose of the bone marrow biopsy they want to perform ( are they looking for cancer that may have spread to my bones?) NVM I have thought this thru & decided it is crazy to ask this of someone that knows absolutely nothing of my history so I will wait until the 26th & discuss with the doctor @ my return visit. Thank you for your time have a great day

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Lump on your chin may be due to trauma as you mentioned. Lump in your armpit needs detailed evaluation to rule out cancer. Lump in the armpit may be due to cyst, furuncle infection of hair follicle, swollen lymph node, lymphomas, abscesses, infectious mononucleosis, breast cancer or lipoma.

Hence detailed examination and biopsy is necessary for specific cause and treatment. Bone marrow biopsy is done to detect unexplained anemia (lack of red blood cells), abnormal numbers of blood cells (red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets), lack of iron (iron deficiency), cancers of the blood-forming tissue (leukemia or lymphoma), cancers that have spread to the bone marrow, and response to chemotherapy. Hence, to evaluate or rule out any of the above conditions, bone marrow biopsy is done.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
