Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was recently diagnosed with lupus. I was told my count was only a 5 at this point. I also have anti-phospholipid antibody syndrome. I am currently on warfarin and effient as well as aspirin. I need to know what the count means and if I should be seeing a specialist instead of a general doctor for my treatment. Could you help me? What is lupus exactly? I don t get answers from my doctor when I ask him.
Lupus means it's a autoimmune condition in which our immune cells attack our own tissue. So normal healthy cells get damaged due to inflammation in organs like joint, liver, skin, kidney etc. Steroid and other immuno-suppression drug needed in such condition to prevent immune attack on normal cells.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami, General & Family Physician
