What Causes Lymphoid Hyperplasia After Treated With I 131?
I had I 131 treatment for graves disease in June of 2011. I have for the past 3 weeks felt as if I had food stuck on the back of my tongue. Went to my ob/gyn today and asked him to look at it and he said it was lymphoid hyperplasia from the I 131 now I am worried. could it be cancer it feels like a piece of popcorn kernel stuck in my throat. I am now hypo thyroid and I am on 100mcg of levothyroxine once a day. Just had bloodwork again for thyroid yesterday don't know the results, I am a smoker and have been trying to quit and I am worried

Iodine 131 therapy causes destruction of thyroid gland by means of radiation activity.Side effects of this therapy is sialadenitis (inflammation of salivary glands) can occur manifested by dryness of mouth,feeling of food stuck in mouth etc.Lymphoid hyperplasia can occur if there is remnant thyroid tissue in lymph nodes.Hypothyroidism after i131 therapy is an effect not a complication.Please have good hydration (drink lots of fluid),salivary secretogogues like lemon juice,and regular bowel movements.By these measures radiation toxicity can be reduced
