What Causes Memory Issues While On Simvastatin, Lisinopril, And Metformin?

My husband is on simvastatin, lisinopril, and metformin because he is diabetic. He became diabetic when he was about 30 years old. He is and always has been insulin dependent. In the last couple of months he has really been struggling with his memory; both long term and short term. I heard one of these medications can cause that but I can t find anything online. What can you tell me?

Hi,

Your question is quite valid. Among the drug you mentioned, simvastatin might have a role in it. There have been few reports of decline in cognition in patients on statins, causing forgetfulness and poor memory. So this may be a possible culprit.

However, this is not the only cause. He should be assessed in detail to rule out other causes of cognitive decline. Once all other causes are ruled out, then we may put it to simvastatin.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
