Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What could be the cause of a sudden period change? I am 23 year old female. My last three periods were all three days long. I had an iud removed a few months ago and ever since then, my period has drastically changed. It was a non-hormonal iud and while I had it my period was at least seven days. I have never had a period shorter than seven days my entire life. I was seen for an unspecified cyst three weeks ago and still haven t had a follow up since.
The cycles are coming at regular intervals then there is no need to worry. With iron supplementation and a healthy diet, the periods will return to their regular flow in a few months.
Hormonal tests that have been prescribed by her gynecologist are also necessary to rule out any hormonal disturbance.
Since the periods are coming at regular intervals, it is not going to affect her fertility. You can plan for your next baby. Do get the hormonal tests done and if everything is normal then there is no need to worry.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
