Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am going into menopause, I think. My menstrual cycles are all over the place. I ve had premenstrual migraines as long as I can remember. Why am I getting both pre and post menstrual migraines now? And they last for days longer though, thankfully except for one time, they have been less severe than before. I also was diagnosed with lupus 3 years ago. Does this impact the onset of menopause and can it affect the migraines?
The menstrual migraine are usually related to hormonal changes. They are very common for women during menstrual cycle and also perimenopause.
I suggest using pain relievers such as ibuprofen and naproxen to prevent menstrual migraines or make them less severe. You can take them twice a day starting 2 to 3 days before your period time.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
