What Causes Metallic Taste In Mouth?

Hi, I m 63 yrs old and have had a metallic taste in my mouth for about 2 weeks. I have not had any changes of medication but have been taking sudafed, and Ibuprophen for sinus headache from allergies. My regular medications are Metformin 750 mg. Glimepiride 4 g, levothyroxine 137 mcg and my newest med (I ve been on for 4 months is Zetia 10 mg for cholesterol. My blood sugars in the morning are between 70 and 110. Could any of these be causing the metalic taste. I also use Serevent inhalers Pulmicort and occasional albuterol but have been on these 3 for about 12 years. I can call my doctor tomorrow. I m sorry I didn t know there would be a charge. This is the first time I ve used this part of Web MD.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain metallic taste in mouth can be due to infection in the salivary gland leading to discharge of infectious fluid known as Pus and it can be a common cause of metallic taste in mouth..
Other causes of metallic taste can be side effect of any medication, dental and gum infection, acid reflux, post nasal drip etc..
As you are having sinus headache there is a possibility that you also have a post nasal drip..
Also as you take a number of medication, therefore it can also be due to side effect of medications..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can be diagnostic..
As of now you can take Diclofenac or Ibuprofen for relief from headache..
You can gargle with warm saline water..
Gargle with antimicrobial mouthwash..
Drink plenty of water..
Chew flavoured sugar free chewing gums..
