Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Metallic Taste In The Mouth After Taking Levothyroxine And Metformin?
I have a funny taste and smell after taking my meds its like some kind of metallic taste I take levothyroxine, metformin, atorvastatin, vesicare and slim quik pure, I didn t get this sensation until recently when the name brand of my thyroid med changed for mylan to lanette or could it now be a drug interaction
It looks like a side-effect of medications only as a number of medicines can cause a metallic taste in the mouth as a side effect.
So the first thing you need to do is to consult your Physician and get evaluated and if it is changing the brand of medicine then he can advise you the older medicine brand.
Along with it, you can start doing warm saline gargles. Clean your tongue using a tongue scraper. Chew flavoured sugar-free chewing gum and gargle with flavoured antiseptic mouthwash.
But it is better to once discuss with your doctor to see if any medicine can be changed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Honey Arora, Dentist
