Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter was born with Microcephaly. Her brain MRI shows no malformations. Her genetic, chromosomal, virus tests are normal. She is 3 months old now and looks active. Her head size now is growing normally but looks small as compared to other kids of her age. The interesting thing is that the ultrasound showed that her head did not grow during the ninth month of pregnancy. Overall she did not grow much during the 9th month. She was born on 39 weeks - 16.5 inches height, 5.12 lbs weight, 28.5 cms head circumference.
Hello, Welcome to Ask a doctor services. I have read your query & ca understand your concern.
As per USG report the head did not show proportionate growth to the gestational period, certain infections like rubella, toxoplasmosis, cytomegalovirus, Zika virus & exposure or addiction to drugs, alcohol, toxic chemicals cause congenital microcephaly. It is a lifelong condition but can be managed if well taken care of.
As your daughter grows, monitor her closely with external helps in time like speech therapy, occupational therapy, stay connected to her doc to regulate medications for better seizure control, hyperactivity or other nerve problems. Give her healthy lifestyle & diet. Hope I have answered your question, take care. Regards, Dr Nupur K
