Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi I went jogging Sat with my hair in a ponytail along a city trail. Later that day my neck started becoming sore. I developed a migraine and the skin on my neck was tender. I put an ointment on my neck to relieve the tightness. And now I still have soreness as well as a small red rash. I am wondering if the rash is from the ointment but not sure why my neck is so tight Never mind I did not know there was a charge Thank you for your time
It looks like prolonged straining of hair in a ponytail that's causing you external compression headache. Such symptoms are also seen when one sleeps in uncomfortable position or stress, wearing hijab, headscarf or tight braids. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, you will have to get some blood & imaging tests done. In the meantime for relieve you can take Acetaminophen (tylenol), Sumatriptan (Alsuma) or Treximet (combination of sumatriptan and naproxen). However, other medical conditions that may cause similar symptoms are degenerative disc disease, cervical spondylosis, spinal stenosis, cervicogenic headache, etc. Get screening done by a GP, get diagnosed & treated at the earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
