What Causes Migraine Headaches When Diagnosed With Benign Brain Tumor?
My sister has migraine headaches, numbness in the upper body (paralzyed one time) blurred - crossing vision, electrical like shocks in the back of the head. She had her thyroid out on meds synthrix, had spine surgery of the upper neck, hysterectomy, and carpel tunner surgery. She was just diagnosed with a benign (most likely) brain tumor (back bottom right) Stanford said it appears to be slow growing and benign - recheck in 6mths. Compared an mri from Nov and a contract mri from August. Dr at Stanford (neurosurgeon) said the tumor due to location is most likely not the reason for the headaches, numbness and weird vision. She lowered her synthrex and it helped a little - she thinks. She is going to go see an Opthomologist - Neurologist at Stanford. Do you have any ideas? Linda
Migraine and headache are common signs of brain tumours. The increased intracranial mass and increased intracranial pressure can cause a headache. The cross vision she is having may be caused by the position of the tumour near sella turcica and the compression the tumour is doing to the crossing of the optical nerves near sella turcica. Removing the tumoral mass can ease the symptoms. Even though it may be benign, surgery is needed.
