What Causes Migraines, Facial And Arm Numbness With Fever?
My 40 year old daughter has severe migraines that have started causing facial numbness, now affecting her arm. She has been provided both narcotic migraine meds and, more recently a barbiturate med. She is trying to get in to see a neuro doctor. She spent this past weekend in the hospital, where they eliminated meningitis. They sent her home with the barbiturate Rx. She also runs a low to mid-grade fever during these times. I am keeping to myself the possibility of a tumor and have personal concerns. Any thoughts, suggestions you can provide in the meantime before she is able to secure her appointment? Thanks
Hello! Thank you for your question on HCM! In my opinion these symptoms may be caused by a cerebral vasculitis. It is an inflammation of the brain vessels causing migraine like headache and motor or sensory problems. The fever is part of the inflammation. A tumor can cause headache and motor or sensory deficits but the episodic fever during headache would be very exceptional. So I would recommend to have blood analysis for inflammation, PCR, fibrinogen levels and a brain MRI. An angiography followed by a subcutaneous biopsy may be needed. Hope to have been of help! Greetings! Dr. Aida
