hi my son is 5 years old.i was cleaning his ear with a cotton bud.he suddenly look at me because of which he got hurt.i didnt notice anything instaed his scream.he slept at night.when he wake up in the morning isaw some spots of blood on the bed.i noticed that his ear was bleeding n there was a dried blood on all over his ear.i m very worried .please suggest what should i do.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that there has been injury to the ear caused by the ear bud and it has led to bleeding.. There is a possibility that he has injured only the mucosa of the ear canal leading to bleeding while there is also possibility that due to moving the ear bud has gone too far in the ear leading to perforation of the ear drum.. I would suggest you to consult an Otolayngologist and get evaluated and he can do an Otoscopic examination and in case if there is injury to ear canal then nothing is to be worried for as it will get resolved soon and you need to only give him Acetaminophen if there is pain.. In case if there is perforation in the eardrum, small perforation can get resolved with antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller and decongestants.. In case of large perforation surgical treatment that is Tympanoplasty might be advised..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
