What Causes Mild Chest Pain And Breathlessness At The Age Of 97?

My Dad is 97 and living in an assisted living place. I just called him at 7 pm tonight and he said that he was having some mild chest pain and it was a little harder for him to breathe. Over the phone I could hear some sound of him breathing. I asked him if he needed some help, and he said no, that he would just be going to sleep in a little while. I left a message with the caregiver, who takes care of 10 people in his group. Do you have any other suggestions on a Saturday night? Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I think you should consider as serious the symptoms of not taking a breathe for your 97-year-old father. Should ask the caregiver to measure his blood pressure, and sugar levels, and observe his vital signs. If he will notice anything unusual, should send to ER as soon as possible. Raise his head to help him breathe.
