What Causes Mild Cognitive Impairment Long After Treating Hydrocephalus?
I am a 62 year old healthy white male who was shunted for hydrocephalus at the age of 22. I had an evacuation of a subdural hemotoma and was comatose for eight days. I graduated college very quickly and have been told I am a genius four times. In the past week. the neuropsychologist at the rehab where I reside informed me that I am suffering from mild cognitive impairment. I am frightened and fear the horrible death that I have found my search on the internet that this diagnosis intails. Is there anything that can be done to prolong my life? I am also considering quality of time remaining. Advise
It is quite common after long standing hydrocephalus. Old age is also a factor. In most cases it will not be reversible but the progress can be arrested using drugs like donepezil.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
