What Causes Mild Hearing Loss And Discomfort In Head Post A Concussion?

Hello, recently my husband was assaulted and we went to the hospital. He suffered a broken jaw and they said he had a mild concussion. This was about a week ago. We just visited the trauma nurse on Monday and she asked him questions of which he said he was fine, but I could say I felt like he was having more trouble hearing then usual. Tonight he is saying he feels funny in the head and somethings not right. He has gone to bed and I am just wondering if there is anything I can do to make sure he is ok until we can contact the trauma nurse tomorrow?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Hearing loss after concussion indicates injury to the middle ear. Tympanic membrane in ear must be damaged as hearing loss occurred.

So it's not that emergency that you have to visit hospital immediately but you should as early as possible.

As time passes heading problem may worsen. Dizziness also increases after some time due to an imbalance in pressure equilibrium between inside and outside.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
