Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
It was discovered that have microvascular disease when I had a stroke 2 1/2 years ago. I had diabetes (A1C 13), high cholesterol (275) and high blood pressure (175/90) for 15 years before that. After the stroke I changed my lifestyle and diet, and now my A1C is 5.6, my cholesterol is 146 and my bp is 102/60, all without medication. But I continue to have mini-strokes frequently (every 2 weeks-3 months) and the MRI always shows increased T2 Flair Hyperintensities (but no large vessel stenosis or large stroke lesions). Since I improved everything (and lost 45 pounds by becoming a vegan) why am I still having the ministrokes?
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Mini strokes are due to obstruction to the mini vessels in the brain. Blockage is due to blood clogging. You may need to take medication to keep your blood vessels patent.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
