Hi,
Copper IUD is a non
hormonal contraceptive method which triggers your immune system to prevent pregnancy. It lasts longer than hormonal IUDs. But,
you may have some cramping or a small amount of vaginal bleeding that may last several hours to several days after the Copper IUD removal. Some people don't get period at all. Sometimes periods may become heavier or lighter, irregular or partially stopped after the Copper IUD removal. However, this may not be a permanent change.
It can take up to 3 months after the Copper IUD removal for your normal menstrual cycle or period to return. Side effects of Copper IUD removal are severe
abdominal pain or cramps, fever or chills,
heavy vaginal bleeding, bad smelling discharge from vagina, symptoms of
premenstrual syndrome like breast tenderness, nausea, headache, skin blemishes. If these side effects persist for long or bother you, then you should consult your doctor for
medical help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
