Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
55 days since last period and 1 negative pregnancy test. I was on BC for about 13yrs and stopped BC October 2015. Once I stopped my period was normal 28 to 30 days. I got my normal period May then in July (54 days late). From July to today (9/14/15) I m 55 days late. At what point should I be worried, possible pregnant and make an appointment with my doctor. I ve always been regular; can my cycle change to irregular?
Pregnancy tests detect the level of HCG hormone. This is detectable by day 11 to 14 after delivery.
If the pregnancy test was done after this time then it is accurate. If it was done before this time then it should be repeated.
There are other cause of delayed period that need to be considered such as: (1)emotional stress or illness (2) disease of the thyroid (3)physical illness (4)high level of the hormone prolactin (5)excess physical activity or inadequate diet (6)polycystic ovarian syndrome
Blood tests and imaging of the pelvis may also be required.
I hope this helps
