What Causes Missed Periods While On Abstinence From Sex?
Hi My doctor gave me a slip with a gynecology consult. I haven t had my period in 4 months, haven t had sex in over a year and since then I ve decided to stay abstinent until marraige. I m not sure why I m not getting my period and I also feel like I have anxiety
Missed periods commonly results due to pregnancy. You should ideally get urine test done, to rule out pregnancy. If you didn't have sex over a year you may skip the test.
Anemia, hormonal imbalances, certain birth control pills or implants, eating disorders, weight gain, medical conditions like polycystic ovarian disease or infertility causes missed periods.
You are suggested to get clinically examined by a gynae, get all blood & imaging tests done. Get assessed & treated at the earliest.
Stay away from anxiety, stress & addictions if any. Your treatment (HRT, medications or surgery) will depend upon the pathology detected.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Nupur K, General & Family Physician
