Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi ! I cried twice this past week and both of the times my tears were not salty at all! I actually stopped crying straight away cuz it was scary.. should I be worried? Has this something to do with high sugar in my body?? (im an awful sugar eater and sometimes I go through periods where I have lots of salt in my meals)
Tears are a combination of water, salt, antibodies and some enzymes. If the tears are more salty, then some disorder is indicated. However, low salts in tears is not an abnormality and you can ignore it. It has nothing to do with sugar or salts in your diet.
If you still feel it abnormal, you can go to an opthalmologist and ask for an osmolarity test to test saltiness of your tears.
I would say that if it keeps you off crying, let it be! I wish this answers your query. Let me know if you have any follow up questions. Stay happy!
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
