Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am married and my husband is living in another country. We haven t seen each other in 11 months but Skype and talk frequently. Yesterday, he told me that he was diagnosed with Molluscum Contagiosum on the base of his penis and pelvis. He claims that he doesn t know how he contracted it, but he has been faithful to me. Is it possible that this was a random inflection or should I be concerned that this was contracted sexually. How likely is it that MCV is contracted non- sexually in adults in this region of the body? Thank you
Molluscum contagiosum is a viral infection which occurs commonly in children. In adults it can occur due to lowered immunity or due to sexually transmitted infections. Because molluscum contagiosum is self-limited in healthy individuals, treatment may be unnecessary and lesions will resolve in a few months.
Physical removal of lesions may include cryotherapy (freezing the lesion with liquid nitrogen), curettage (the piercing of the core and scraping of caseous or cheesy material), and laser therapy.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
