What Causes Mosquito Bite-like Bumps On Back With Swollen Hands And Feet?

My mom has been getting red bumps, that look like mosquito bites on her back, but they definetly are not mosquito bites. This has been going on for around 3 months. She said the bumps are extremely painful but there is no blisters, bleeding or puss coming out. Her legs, feet and hands also swell up and become very red and warm to the touch. She has extreme fatigue, its gotten so bad that she recently slept for almost 4 days straight, she would only wake up if someone went in to wake her. Her doctor has treated her for shingles and impetigo, but she has never had the blisters that are associated with those diseases. Not to mention this keeps happening even after treatment. Can someone please give me some advice on what she should talk to her doctor about and have him test for, because I firmly believe it s not shingles or impetigo. Thank you, Amanda

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

There are many of the skin conditions presenting with bite like bumps on back, swollen hands and feet as auto immune disorders, bacterial infections or else. Tests are of vivid categories depending upon the clinical expertise, however following are commonly done:
- Allergy or atopic conditions evaluation with IgE levels
- Wooden lamp examination
- Total white cell counts and ESR with fasting blood sugar
- Culture of any visible vesicle or fluid content over skin surface
- Antibodies in blood
- Skin biopsy at most vulnerable site or affected region of the body

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
