Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I took my first dose of zanaflex 4mg. (o) yesterday for lower back/hip pain. I got mouth dryness to the extent that my tongue stuck to the sides of my mouth and I was light headed. Are these symptoms dangerous? Should I cut the tablet in half to begin? My b/p runs 120-128/ 60-80, pulse 62. Thanks, JR
Zanaflex (Tizanidine) is a short-acting muscle relaxant; it can cause dry mouth as GIT side effect. Your BP & pulse are normal. But it can cause postural hypotension-hence light-headedness. Optimal dose is 4 mg. Get BP Checked on lying and then on standing after 3 minutes to see if there is any postural drop in systolic blood pressure by more then 10 mm hg.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
