What Causes Mouth Swelling While On Antibiotic For Pneumonia?
I was on an antibiotic for Pneonimia and on the 6th day of taking it my mouth started swelling. Was only a 7 day perscription so I finished it. It has been a week and my tongue keeps getting worse. First it was judt swollen now I have white blisters. Been using salt water, a mixture of mylantan and childrens benadryl but it is not helping. Can t afford another Dr. visit, What can I do?
I can understand your concern. It seems like a severe allergic reaction to the antibiotic and you should have stopped it when the reaction started.
Childern's benadryl and salt water may not work for this kind of reaction. I would advise you to start antihistamine such as Levocetrizine 5 mg (Levocet) or Loratidine 10 mg (Lorfast) once a day for 5 days.
However, if the reaction does not subside in 5 days, you should see a dentist for clinical examination of the reaction and further investigations. For the ulcers in the mouth, local application of Benzocaine gel (Mucopain) 3-4 times a day will help in pain reduction and will enhance healing. Avoid taking this specific antibiotic in future.
I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.
