Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For the past three weeks, I have had what I assumed were canker sores on my gums, a metallic taste in my mouth, a sore, coated tongue, a sore throats on the right side of my throats only, and a low grade fever. I am seeing a dentist tomorrow. What might this be?
The symptoms that you have explained of having canker sores on my gums, a metallic taste in my mouth, a sore, coated tongue, a sore throats on the right side of my throat and a low grade fever is pointing towards viral infection.. As it is already 3 weeks you should consult an Emergency room and get a blood test done to rule out infections.. A viral culture should also be done.. You can be advised a course of anti-viral medications like Acyclovir to relieve the symptoms faster.. Tylenol can be given to reduce fever faster.. For pain over the sores you can gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lidocaine or you can gargle with specialised mouthwash like Magic Mouthwash.. Avoid spicy foods..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
