What Causes Mucous Like Diarrhea And Abdominal Cramps?
I think I ate something bad at the airport a week ago. I had diarrhea for a full day. Since then, I seem to have to go the bathroom several times a day. The diarrhea is gone but the stool is soft with yellowish, mucasy globs. Still a little cramping. Four of us on vacation in Hawaii. Yesterday, after a Sunday brunch, two others had diarrhea but are feeling better so far today.
Hello, Welcome to HCM. I understand your problem. You may be suffering from stomach bug. It can be due to virus, bacteria or parasites. In your case, it seems to be due to e. coli, shigella or amoebiasis. Here, a course of antibiotics is indicated. You should take antibiotic like ofloxacine or ciprofloxacine along with metronidazole or tinidazole for 5-6 days. Take plenty of fluids preferably ORS as long as you have frequency of stool. You can take antispasmodic like dicyclomine for cramps. You should also take prebiotic preparations available OTC. Hope this will be helpful. Take care.
