What Causes Mucus At The Back Of Throat While Laying Flat On Back?
i get a gel like mucus at the back of my throat when i lay on my back in bed. It doesn t happen when I lay sideways, face down or when Im standing. my doctor checked my throat and said there was no sign of any problem , have you come across this before.
You are experiencing a lot of mucus at the back of the throat. It can be due to overproduction of mucus as you are not taking adequate amount of water and fluids. Avoid taking food or drinks that may cause fluid loss like tea, coffee or alcohol. Stay comfortable in a room that has a humidifier. Dry environmental condition can also cause thick mucus. It can be due to the side effects of certain medicines that you are taking.
Be careful what medicines you are taking. Stay away from irritants, pollutants, chemicals, smoke, etc. Gargle with warm salt water 2-3 times a day. Taking mucolytics will be helpful. Expectorants, such as guaifenesin (Mucinex, Robitussin) can help to thin and loosen mucus so that it will clear out of your throat and chest. Get clinically examined by a GP/ENT, if excess mucus production is forming due to bacterial infection. you will be given a course of antibiotics.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
