What Causes Mucus In Sinus Along With Productive Cough?

Hello. I am recently recovered from a cold, which seems to be cleared up, but am left feeling very mucus-y in my sinuses, and this is causing me to cough, a lot. It probably sounds odd, but it feels like I have the urge to cough something out from inside my head, which at the same time seems impossible! I do not have any residual sore throat from the cold, just this mucus cough. Is there anything I can do myself to drain my sinuses?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have mucus in sinus along with productive cough which is due to granular pharyngitis or upper respiratory tract infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to avoid eating and drinking acidic, spicy and hot food and beverages. Sip warm water after every few minutes. Do warm saline gargles. If condition doesn't get better in 2-3 days then consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis and go for swab test. Go for sputum test as well if required and start treatment as per proper diagnosis. Take proper course of antibiotics such as Amoxiclav along with levocetirizine. You should take steam inhalation. Get X-ray of chest done to find out cause of cough and start treatment accordingly.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
