What Causes Mucus Stool Discharge With Abdominal Pain?

Hello. I have been experiencing severe abdominal cramping followed by a drastic change in my stool for over a month now. It was occurring every time after I ate, but now is more frequent and happens even if I haven t eaten at all. Yesterday, I had the cramping and was on the way to the restroom when I felt something come out. I noticed it was a mucus substance, yellowish brown, and fishy smelling. The pain and bowel movements seem to be getting worse. Please help.

Hi,

Gastritis is the condition involving the stomach in which the stomach layers get inflamed following exposure to acidity or any other toxic substance. Acidity is more common in fatty and oily diet and also in irregular eating habits. Long term exposure to the toxic substances including the gastric acid results in damage to the stomach protective covering. Gastritis results in poor digestion which in turn causes diarrhea particularly after spicy food intake along with cramps. Since, stomach is the first primary organ for breakdown and digestion of food particles, gastritis results in poor digestion. Undigested food into the small intestine excreted after partial digestion results in diarrhea.

Infective etiology also causes cramping diarrhea. It must be associated with food intake and also with fever. Inflammatory bowel disease is also condition causing diarrhea in individuals with bloating and cramps. It mainly involves the small and large intestines. This condition also has family history. Regular and proper balanced diet helps to overcome this condition, if it is due to acidity and gastritis. Visit the gastroenterologist for further evaluation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
