Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Muscle Pain After Taking Atorvastatin And Pravastatin?
My GP had me first on artrovastatin which caused some muscle pain and I switched to pravastatin it is doing the same thing after 2 weeks. 20 mg both times. Any other options my total was 196. Should I stop statins all together. I have been on and off for a year.
I can understand your concerns regarding the safety of cholesterol lowering medications. Based on the history you seem to have developed myopathy apparently caused by both the medications. I would recommend Colesevelam or Ezetimibe which are equally effective in lowering high cholesterol levels but unlikely to cause muscle pain as seen with previously prescribed medications.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
