What Causes Muscle Spasms In Calves?

Good Evening! I have muscle tingling/spasms mainly in the lower legs (calves), but experience in other areas as well. There is no pain, but you can see the muscles contracting. I ve had tests run with Neurologist (nerve conduction and muscle test) and couldn t find anything major. I haven t lost strength and remain very physically active. I m 45 years old 6 5 tall. I m obviously worried something is wrong, but wasn t caught by Neurologist.

Hello and thank you for the question!
There is not a known reason that cause muscle spasms. But there are some conditions that can lead to muscle spasms such as:1.Excercising.If you excercise a lot or if you overuse the muscels than you can have spasms.2.Some medical conditions such as blood flow problems (peripheral arterial disease), kidney disease, thyroid disease, and multiple sclerosis.3.Not having enough potassium, calcium, and other minerals in your blood.4.Being dehydrated.5.Some medications such as , birth control pills, diuretics, statins, and steroids. These are the main conditions that cause muscle spasms.I would advice you to stretch or massage the muscle or to take a warm shower to relax the muscle. If you have pain you can also use medications such as ibuprofen or naproxen
Best regards!
