What Causes Muscle Spasms In Face, Neck And Shoulders?

Yes, thank you.I have been suffering from muscle spasms in my face, neck and shoulders for several years. I ve tried many medicines, but nothing works. The only drug that works immediately is Xanax, but the doctors won t prescribe it anymore. I was on Xanax for 20 years and never became physically addicted to it. It only took me a few weeks to get off of it and I didn t have any withdrawal symptoms. But, I miss having it to stop my muscles spasms when they became very severe. Any suggestions? Thank You

Hi Dear,

As per your query you have problem of muscle spasm from many years and you gaet some relief by taking medicine , xanax . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons like problem in basal ganglia , bell's palsy , trigeminal neuralgia or cervical spondolysis . The medicine xanax is is a benzodiazepine , which affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause anxiety. This is not the permanent solution . I would suggest you to consult neurologist for proper examination . Doctor may give botulinum toxin injections , alcohol injection in ganglia , prescribe muscle relaxant , anti inflammatory or surgery . Doctor may also refer you to orthopedic surgeon . For now do stretching exercises and start physical therapy of these muscles .
