What Causes Muscle Strain In The Hips?

Hello. I believe I have strained a muscle in my inner-hip. It is very deep. Do you know what muscle I might have strained? My ballet teacher tells me rotation is irritating it. When I warm up, I don t feel the pain. But I think it is still stretching it and causing it not to heal. Do you know any excersises or medicine I could take to heal it quickly?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
It's the piriformis muscle spasm ,which is responsible for external rotation of hip while hip is in semi flexed condition.
You have to take rest/ use of cold & hot bag alternately / Over the counter Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs ( dose decided age & weight wise)would help to resolve it many a times.
If it does not work consult an orthopedic surgeon - he may give you injection in muscle & help it to be normal.
Thanks
