What Causes Muscle Weakness In Thighs And Upper Arms?

YYYY@YYYY Hi. I ve been suffering with something for about 2 years now ~ it has gotten worse gradually over time ~ I ve been to specialists, had thousands of dollars worth of tests, but no one can tell me what is wrong. The muscles in my thighs have become so weak that I can t walk from one end of my home to the other without using assistance to help me walk. My muscles are so weak that I am out of breath when I get there. Now I m beginning to feel the same feeling in my upper arms. All I ve been told definitively is that my muscle enzymes are high . I don t know where to turn to for help next. Could you suggest the next step I should take in order to find out what the problem is. My activities are severely limited. Some days it is so hard to move that I just stay in bed most of the day. (It isn t depression. I just have a very difficult time moving.) I m only 55 years old with 4 small grandchildren I d like to be able to play with, but I can barely leave my house. Please help if you can. Thank you. ***I m sorry to waste your time. I did not realize I needed a credit card. I do not have credit cards.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
From the history i feel you are having chronic infilamatory polyneuropathy. If i have to treat such a patient i will advice electrodiagnostic studies to diagnose it and biopsy will can also help. It is same as GBS but it is chronic progresis in months or years. If i have to treat such a patient i will advice. Steroids are mainstay of treatment i will suggests tab prednisolone 60 to 80 mg daily for 3 months , if response is good tab prednisolone can be reduced 20 mg once a day, IVIG can be added or prednisoloe can be m replaced with it. Latter immunomodullatory drugs can be added . It is azathioprine.
