Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have muscle aches and joint pains. No fever but feel like I have the flu. I have this often. I am 71 and active, tennis, swim, walk. Normal weight. I have CAD and am on statins. I had to stop taking statins because of side effects but recently resumed taking atorvastatin. I don t think it is related to this medication because I ve had symptoms while not taking statins. Can you give me your opinion?
A statin can cause body aches but that's not always the cause. We can do a test called cpk, if that high then this may be related to statins but if that's normal then the aches and pain are unlikely due to statins.
I would suggest taking some vitamin D, calcium and multivitamins for sometimes. If the pain was not better then go to your doc for proper work up. You may use paracetamol for the time being.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
