What Causes My Mother's Recurring Body Tremors

My mother has been experiencing tremors all over. The neurologist ruled out Parkinsons and then prescribed carb/levo 25m (one tablet at 2pm and two at 8pm since December, 2009. The tremors are intermittent during the day but in the last two weeks the frequency has increased. She has been trying to avoid nausea medicine in the last two weeks too. (prochlorper). Could that be making it worse? She takes tramodol, valium for tremors, Omeprazole, verapamil for her heart, erythromycin for a lazy stomach, fluoxetine, mirtazapine, simvastatin, fluticasone propionate for allergy, vitamin D & citracal. Any clues?

Sometimes, Prochlorperazine is the cause of tremors and other parkinsonian symptoms. Therefore, not taking that medicine should not cause more tremors. However, if she is stressed due to nausea, her tremors may increase as tremors have significant psychological component. You should also check if there are any other significant stressors recently or if there has been any major change in medication. Often levodopa needs to be given in increasing quantity over time to be effective. If she is on the same dose for five years, it is possible that this is what has happened.
Taking Valium for long time for tremors may not be a good idea; especially in elderly person. Please discuss with your neurologist about possibility of an alternative medication.
